Set List from Aug 20, 2011 The Mighty Rumpus Show

Set List from Aug 20, 2011 The Mighty Rumpus Show

A bunch of people came out to see our first show at Right Turn this Saturday.  We raised a good chunk of change for the clinic and had a great time rocking out for the Rumpus Army.  The set was over an hour in length and had a very nice arc to it.

We got some great fan input about what The Mighty Rumpus sounds like and we will continue to post this information as we have time. We are both looking forward to our next show on September 13th at Wonder Bar in Allston for Music Ecology night.

Tomorrow Night: The First Show

Dear Mighty Rumpus Posse,

We are really looking forward to our performance tomorrow night (Saturday August 20th 2011) at Right Turn in Arlington! Our rehearsals have been really fantastic and we’ve been able to create a lot of energy and passion even without an audience.  We are excited to have the music fed with your energy, enthusiasm and dancing.

The sound at Right Turn is quite good and the audience wraps almost completely around the stage so it’s a great place to see music.  The venue is on the small side, so try to get there early if you can. Doors open at 7 PM and the show will start at 8 PM.  We’re asking for a $5 donation to help out Right Turn. Right Turn is located at 299  Broadway in Arlington, MA (map).

For those of you who don’t already know, Right Turn (http://www.right-turn.org/index.html) is a great organization that helps musicians, artists, and performers (among others) with addiction treatment and mental health issues. The organization was founded by Woody Geissmann, the drummer from the Del Feugos, and has been supported by the Rolling Stones, Alice Cooper, Simon Kirk from Bad Company, Chad Smith of the Chili Peppers, and many other from Rock and Roll Royalty.

Hope to see you there!

First, There Was Rumpus…

First, there was Rumpus and it was good. But then there was another Rumpus in the U.K. and that was bad.  So then there was The Mighty Rumpus and it was good.

Rumpus was formed in the Summer of 2011 when Henny Rock met Frankster and decided to play some music together.  First, Henny played bass and Frank played acoustic drums and then later Frank switched to electronic drums triggering Kontact and a variety of VST instruments.  This allowed for the flexibility of playing percussion, bass, melody and pads all through the Drum Kat. So Henny Rock switched to playing baritone guitar with intricately programmed effects using a POD Live XT floor pedal board.

They agreed that Rumpus (or The Mighty Rumpus) was to be dance music, but their sound developed over the summer to become something like a mix between up-tempo electronica and psychedelic jam-band improvisations.  Swirling textures and phat beats with memorable repeating melodic figures drifting through the K-Hole of life…or something like that.
